Hi everyone!
As you may have noticed I've added medals to the game recently. Apologies for them not working yet, I've only added them so I can implement them for the next update. Speaking of! I've been adding lots of nifty new features and changes that I'm sure you're going to enjoy! Not to spoil anything, but I've added a hint system that ties in to a new collectable - that being red berries! You give them to Lumlings and they simply give you hints in return.
And now for some (sort of) bad news. I tried to figure out a way to implement a save system to the game, but since it's a browser exclusive game, I couldn't wrap my head around how to make it work. I am implementing a workaround though so you don't need to beat the game in one sitting, but I have to admit it is only a little scuffed. It's genuinely the best I could do, being a new and independent developer and all.
Some bugs that I've already squashed include:
- Blue flowers on the beach being able to be eaten anywhere as long as you've hit it's collision area
- Coyote time briefly causing your character to be able to jump infinitely after leaving the ground
- Strange geometry being seen in the beach
- Sliders in settings not saving their position after switching scenes
Some new additions and changes:
- A new collectable (red berries)
- A hint system
- A dynamic map system
- A cheat system (oooh!)
- Being able to talk to the Lumlings using the Interact (E) key
- FOV slider in settings
- Metals/Achievements
- Q is now the default key for crouching (can still be changed in settings)
- P is now the pause button (it was annoying to have to lock the mouse after pausing)
- New splash text in the pause menu
- Removed the Mario Bros. 3 sun as it was never rendered in-game.
- Changed the transparency of the secret cat in the Forest (to make it even more secret!)
- Slight tweaks to player physics (this was a consequence of fixing the previously stated 'infinite jump' bug)
This is merely just to check-in to show you what I've been doing behind the curtains. I can't really give an ETA when this will be finished. It likely won't be for a while due to all of these ambitious ideas, but I'll keep you all posted when the game is almost due to update!
Chris
Lumlings was a massively charming game I’m looking forward to the next iteration :)
